Minimum requirements

GRAIN ROT arrives on Aug 7, 2026 with a published minimum spec list that should be comfortable for most gaming PCs built in the last several years. The requirements target Windows 10 64Bit and DirectX 11, with no 32-bit build or older OS version listed. Before you check individual components, confirm your Windows install is the 64-bit edition.

The minimum hardware is roughly a GTX 970 class GPU paired with a mid-2010s Intel CPU or a Ryzen 5 2600. Both listed graphics cards carry about 4 GB of VRAM, which means texture-heavy scenes in the ruined wasteland might need lower settings on the minimum tier. The Steam page does not publish a target framerate, so treat this tier as "playable" rather than "smooth".

Recommended requirements

For a more consistent experience in the scorched wasteland, the recommended spec list steps up to newer 6-core processors and RTX-class graphics. This is the tier to aim for if you plan to play Online Co-op with friends and want stable performance during extraction runs.

Notice that memory stays at 8 GB RAM for both tiers, and storage remains 10 GB available space with DirectX 11 unchanged. The meaningful jumps are in the processor and graphics card. The RTX 2060 and RX 5700 both deliver well over double the raw performance of the minimum tier cards, which should give you more headroom for higher settings and busier co-op sessions.

If you already own 8 GB of RAM and have a drive with 10 GB free, the upgrade path from minimum to recommended is mostly about the GPU, since the CPU jump from the i5-4590 to the i5-10600 is significant but the graphics card matters more for the rendered wasteland.

Notes

Because GRAIN ROT is a co-op extraction builder with Multi-player and Online Co-op support, the Broadband Internet connection requirement applies to both the minimum and recommended tiers. A stable connection is not optional when descending into ruins with friends, so factor in network quality as well as raw hardware.

• Windows 10 64Bit is the only OS listed for both tiers. Windows 11 is not called out separately, but the 64-bit requirement stands.
• DirectX 11 is required at both tiers. Check that your GPU drivers are current before launch.
